B i o g r a p h y
Born and grown up among the foothills of the Alps of Veneto, many people looks upon Andrea Stefani as one of the best italic extreme metal drummers. His capacity of mixing up speed, precision and power of blast beat and double bass, and his fluency in changing from intricate odd time signature rhythms to doom/ambient passages earned him a lot of appreciation and respect every time he plays a live gig and in every critical review.
At the age of 11 he began his musical way by studying musical theory and playing violin in the school orchestra. At the age of 14 he began appreciating hard rock music and his listening changed quickly from classic heavy metal music to extreme metal. He felt totally enraptured by the sound barrier created by double pedal and blast beat technique, so much that his first contact with a pair of sticks took place a few time after his 15th birthday, and that with a double pedal one only a week later. From the very beginning he played with some of his schoolmates, forming some metal bands and playing live gigs.
In 2002 he began what is still his main project nowadays, AD NAUSEAM (Ex Death Heaven).
Thanks to the time spent in playing with AD NAUSEAM and to the consequent technical and stylistic upgrade, in 2004 the genre turned from thrash metal to a brutal death metal with technical influences.
Since then, he has zeroed in on the studying of extreme metal genre, working a lot on double bass drums speed, on precision of the blast beat and on creative playing.
In December 2007 took place the coming out of Death Heaven (Now AD NAUSEAM) first album “Viral Apocalypse” for the label Punishment 18 records and after that many promotional gigs followed, abroad too.
In July 2008 he had the honor to play with Cynic, opening for their concert in Milan, and Sean Reinert himself congratulated with Andrea for the performance.
He had been studying many years at AMM (Modern Music Academy) in Padua with M° Camillo Colleluori, which gave him the opportunity to improve and to perfect his capacities, and in the meanwhile, to develop his stylistic background. This enabled him to make his drumming style varied and musically more effective.
In September 2008 took place for the Chinese label Funeral Moonlight Productions the coming out of the first full length of Helvete, his ex-band, in which he was founder and main composer.
At the same time he made a contribution as session drummer in the black metal band Eternal Frost. In December of the same year he recorded their first demo “Into the Mist” and after some live gigs, he joined the band as permanent member.
Currently he goes on with composition and live gigs activeness which drives him to travel round Italy and abroad. He teaches as a private and in a couple of schools. He studies also foreign languages and licteratures (norwegian and french) at the University of Milan.
He has had the honor of sharing the stage with: CYNIC (U.S.A.), ULCERATE (NZ), SVARTCROWN (F), NECROPHOBIC (SWE), MUMAKIL(CH), HANDFUL OF HATE, MALFEITOR, KULT, HORRID, KARNAK, CORAM LETHE, CADAVERIC CREMATORIUM, MORTUARY DRAPE, INSANE ASSHOLES, IMPOSER, and many other underground bands.
